About
As a glass artist I work in a medium with endless possibilities. The colors and contrast in some of my pieces are subtle, while in others they are vibrant and distinct. With the addition of light they literally come to life. Each piece of Housby Glass is uniquely designed and individually crafted. No two are alike.
Each piece starts by cutting large sheets of glass and combining layers to be fired in a kiln. The heat ranges from 1100-1650 degrees, which allows me to create differing effects. Pieces are designed using techniques including sandblasting, grinding, cutting with a saw, and manipulating the glass both when it is hot and cold before firing several additional times.
I continue to learn new techniques and stretch my imagination by taking Master level classes from world renowned glass artists such as Karl Harron, Richard Parish, Nathan Sandberg and Silvia Levenson. Incorporating a broad spectrum of techniques in my art helps expand my perspective and also makes each piece of Housby Glass one of a kind.
10% of each sale is donated to the Charlie Cutler Healing and Wellness Program at the John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines, Iowa. To learn more please visit www.Unitypoint.org/desmoines/comfort-therapies .
